We’re only a few days into NaNoWriMo and it’s going both better and worse than expected. Better in that I’m keeping up with daily par, which I was a little worried about this year. Worse in that I don’t feel like my story is going anywhere yet. Maybe I shouldn’t be worried about that, since someone very accurately predicted that I’d actually get to the beginning of my story on day six. Maybe I have great things to look forward to starting tomorrow.
As usual in November, this is going to be a fairly short post so I can focus on my novel project for the month. I’m beginning to fall in love with my characters already, which is always a good thing, but I’m not super attached to my plot outline, which is not entirely unexpected, but I was hoping the plotting experiment would stick longer. Maybe I’ll come back around to it later. I do have the seven-point plot structure for the team’s emotional journey which fairly closely parallels the outside-the-team conflict which is nice. We’ll see how it goes when I get past exposition stages.
For everyone out there doing the November challenge this year:
Good luck and word speed to you!
