Happy NaNoWriMo Eve! (Oh, and Happy Halloween too!)

Happy NaNoWriMo Eve!

I may be a day early, but October 31st has taken on a whole new meaning in my life since I discovered National Novel Writing Month. It’s not just about dressing up and gathering candy (both of which are very important NaNoWriMo Eve activities).

It’s about having your idea and characters ready to go and waiting up for midnight to get those first few words in. It’s about the building excitement as November approaches. It’s about feeling inspired and ready to write in a way that I can’t always capture the rest of the year.

This year I will in fact be surrounded by a group of fellow WriMos at midnight as we all set off together on the grand adventure of writing a novel in a month. I love when NaNoWriMo starts on a weekend. It means I don’t have to be up before dawn and can actually do the writing at midnight kickoff.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore Halloween. It is by far my most favorite holiday. It just gets better for sharing its day with NaNoWriMo Eve. I have even more to look forward to and even more to love about it.

That gathering of WriMos I mentioned earlier? Costumes will be optional, but I know at least a few people will play dress up with me as we hang out and wait for midnight. There will be goodies of one sort or another, and probably random candy on top of that. But most of all, it will be a chance to spend some quality time hanging out with the best friends I’ve made since my university days.

For my fellow WriMos, what’s your favorite thing to do the night before the big event kicks off?

For all my other readers, what’s your favorite, or least favorite, thing about Halloween?
